Foster City is a community in San Mateo County, California, that rests on the San Francisco Bay. The community is situated on the San Francisco Peninsula, approximately 30 miles south of San Francisco and 30 miles north of San Jose. It is a small, compact city with a small-town feel and an abundance of open space. Foster City is surrounded by a park system with more than ten parks, including Turnstone Park, Shorebird Park, Marlin Park, Farragut Park, and more.

In the heart of Silicon Valley, Foster City is a small city with big-city amenities. The calm and peaceful community has an abundance of open space and recreational trails for bicyclists and pedestrians to explore. Foster City has various housing options, including single-family homes made with brick and wood, giving the city a classic look.

Foster City is a walkable community with many areas to dine and shop. It is a peaceful community with regions of vibrancy and activity. Bellini Bistro is an upscale Italian restaurant that serves traditional fresh dishes like pasta and panini. Akizu Sushi Bar & Grill is a quick and casual spot for tasty sushi, rolls, udon, and more. 
Residents enjoy waterfront shopping and dining at Edgewater Place Shopping Center. Marlin Cove Shopping Center is another popular area filled with shops and restaurants.  

Things to Do

Foster City offers residents many activities and experiences, from outdoor and water activities to annual festivals and cultural centers. Netra Center for Arts specializes in teaching and performing Indian classical dance and music. The center offers instruction in several traditional dance forms, after-school art classes, and live performances. 

The community also hosts weekly farmer’s markets where residents can shop for local produce, fruits, and more. The Kiddos ChuChu is a trackless train ride experience for kids and adults that is open at the weekly markets.

Leo J. Ryan Park is 20-acres of land with open lawns, lagoon access, and beautiful seating and picnic areas. The park also has basketball and tennis courts, boat launches, bike paths, and a community building. 

The community also hosts the annual Foster City Summer Days, which is a time for residents to connect and celebrate the city’s birth. Summer Days are full of activities like carnival rides, live performances, an interactive sports zone, a classic car show, food trucks, and more.

Schools

San Mateo-Foster City School District has 21 schools and serves more than 10,000 Kindergarten through eighth-grade students in Foster City and San Mateo. The district strives to prepare each student to be a socially responsible and active community member. Schools consist of preschool programs, elementary schools, Kindergarten through eighth-grade schools, middle schools, and magnet schools. Foster City also has private and Montessori schools in the area.
