People & Lifestyle

Hillsborough is a refined community exuding Old World glamor close to Silicon Valley’s exciting contemporary tech hubs. The community was first developed with lavish estates and mansions designed for leading 19th and early-20th century industrialists and their heirs. There are many outdoor recreation opportunities in the gorgeous natural area surrounding Montarra Mountain and Crystal Springs Reservoir to Hillsborough’s west. To the east, the cities of Burlingame and San Mateo provide a wide variety of restaurants, retailers, and nightlife spots.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

There is no dedicated commercial area within Hillsborough itself, but homes are within easy reach of many shops, restaurants, and entertainment options in Downtown Burlingame and San Mateo. Burlingame Avenue is one of the area’s premier shopping streets with a great mix of trendy boutiques and brand-name stores. Highlights include yoga and athletic wear at lululemon athletica, curated fashion from European and American designers at Sam Malouf Authentic Luxury, and stylish womenswear and handbags at Kate Spade. Burlingame’s eclectic dining scene includes standouts such as Neapolitan-style Pizzeria Delfina and romantic Northern Italian restaurant Stella Alpina Osteria. San Mateo’s shopping and dining options are similarly extensive. Grab gourmet groceries and specialty prepared foodstuffs at Draeger’s Gourmet Market, dine on exceptional Italian cuisine at Pausa Bar & Cookery, or head to Sushi Sam’s Edomata for an excellent sushi and omakase tasting course.
