Redwood City is in the North Bay region of California's San Francisco Bay Area. The city is on the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay, an area of many fine beaches and parks. Redwood City is a coastal city in San Mateo County. It is known for being a highly educated and progressive city, as it’s home to two universities and several companies in the technology industry.

Redwood City is a hidden gem in the Bay Area, just south of San Francisco, with rolling hills, picturesque neighborhoods, and a thriving downtown. For years, Redwood City has been a haven for technology companies and an entertainment hub. It is also one of the most culturally diverse places in the Bay Area, with a rich heritage of Chinese, Irish, Italian, and Portuguese immigrants. But the community’s biggest draw is its easy-going lifestyle. Redwood City is small enough to feel like a neighborhood but big enough to offer a variety of entertainment, restaurants, and shopping.

Redwood City is complete with beautiful and delicious eateries for any craving. La Honda Winery is a warm and charming venue with event space, wine tastings, winemaker dinners, and more. 

La Viga Seafood & Cocina Mexicana is a Latin eatery that serves traditional dishes in a vibrant and warm atmosphere. Warung Siska is a funky and fun Indonesian restaurant with a sleek design and a range of home-cooked meals. 

LV Mar Tapas & Cocktails is a Latin tapas restaurant with a modern and cool dining area that serves dishes with innovative flavor profiles. Timber & Salt serves American dishes and craft cocktails in indoor and outdoor dining areas.

Residents can make a day exploring the city with different cuisine and shops along the walkable streets. A popular shop in the community is Pickled, a local fashion boutique that sells designer clothes, shoes, and accessories.

Things to Do

There is so much to do and experience in Redwood City. Edgewood Park and Nature Preserve is a stunning 467-acre area with woodlands, grasslands, and wildflower fields. Magical Bridge Playground is an inclusive activity for adults and children of all cognitive and physical abilities. The park provides art classes, storytimes, and special senior time. 

Purisima Creek Redwoods Preserve is more than 5,400-acres of preserved land west of the Santa Cruz Mountains. The preserve has stunning trees, greenery, flowers, and trails for walking and biking. Another beautiful trail with water views is the Redwood Shores Bay Trail

The San Mateo County History Museum in downtown Redwood City has a mission to preserve the community’s unique history and historical sites. Residents can explore the past of Redwood City and participate in tours, exhibits, and monthly programs. 

The Redwood Salsa Festival is a fun event filled with salsa music, dancing, and tastings. The Lebanese Festival is an annual community event with food, vendors, and special performances. Another yearly event is the San Mateo County Brewery Festival, highlighting local breweries and craft beer. 

Fox Theatre is a premier entertainment venue in downtown Redwood City that hosts live events and performances.

Schools

Redwood City School District serves preschool through eighth-grade students in Redwood City. The district strives to offer innovative and interactive education for all students. There are also private, charter, and Montessori schools in Redwood City.
